A guide to the LitFFS Teamspeak Chat
by FelixT

1. Introduction

This is a guide to the latest feature of LitFFS: From now on there is a Teamspeak® server of LitFFS available. Teamspeak® is a voice chat application originally programmed for online gaming, is for free and available for public use.

2. Requirements & Installation

To join the LitFFS TS server nothing much is needed:

• A microphone and headphones or alternatively a headset
• Either a Windows® or a Linux® operation system
• The Teamspeak® Client software.
o You can download the client software at the following urls:
 Windows Users: goteamspeak.com/index.php?page…
 Linux Users: goteamspeak.com/index.php?page…
 For additional information about Teamspeak®, its use and the setup of the software please visit: www.goteamspeak.com

The installation of the software should be self-explanatory, but if you need any help browse the forum and FAQ at www.goteamspeak.com or contact FelixT by dA-note.

3. Connecting to the LitFFS Server

3.1. Connecting as an unregistered user

When you successfully finished the installation of the client software, copy the following link into your web browser (yes, your webbrowser):

teamspeak://202.89.183.48:8767?nickname=<AnyNickname>?

(Please replace “<AnyNickname>” for your dA nickname, it’s only a placeholder.)

This is the joining link for unregistered users. You can bookmark this link to have it at hand at any time. Anyone who joins the server for the first time is an unregistered user.
What a registered user is, why we need a registration and how to registrate will be explained later in this guide.

When you pasted the link into your browser and replaced the placeholder for your own user name, push the enter key on your keyboard. If you have done everything as it’s told in this guide (you mustn’t add a ‘http://’ in front of the link) Teamspeak should be starting and automatically connecting to the server. You’re now logged in for the first time as an unregistered user to the LitFFS Teamspeak® Server.

3.2. Becoming a registered user & joining as a registered user

3.2.1. What’s a registered user and what do we need it for?

A registered user is a user known to the Teamspeak® server, s/he logs in with her/his specified username and password.
Registered users are allowed to enter other chat channels than the LitFFS server entrance chat.
Registered users have extended chatting rights and access to more Teamspeak® commands.

We need registered users to stop foreign people from entering our server to fool around or people searching for trouble. LitFFS is a serious literature community and we do not want people on our server using it as a free telephone! We also want to be safe against hackers.
By controlling who is allowed to enter, we can assure that there will be no trouble on the server and that the people present at the server will be polite, literature interested and frequent #LitFFS visitors and/or LitFFS members.

Another problem is that we can not provide a server admin to be online on the server at any time. If we didn’t use any security devices like the registration, the chat would be “out of control” as soon as there would be no server admin on the server.

Thank you for your comprehension.

3.2.2. How to get registered

There are two possibile ways to register at our Teamspeak server:

• A server admin is present on the server and you log in as an unregistered user:
o Ask the server admin for registration rights by using the “Send Textmessage to User” function available by right mouse click on the server admins name. Server admins can be recognized by the letters SA in the clamps after their username.
o Tell the admin if you are either a LitFFS member or a frequent #LitFFS visitor (sorry we can not allow registration to other than these groups).
o If there are no doubts, the server admin will grant you socalled “Registration Rights”.
o Click on “Self”. The option “Register with server” should be available now. If that’s not the case, please contact the server admin again.
o In the registration box you enter your dA username and the password you want to use to log in.
o For security reasons we can only accept user accounts named like your dA user account. Divergent user accounts will be deleted without warning!
o The password you use can be chosen by yourself. But we suggest you not to use the same password as in deviantArt so that if either of the passwords has been stolen by anyone, the other account isn’t endangered.
• If no server admin is present on the server:
o Please note that in this alternative way of registering, your password will be known to the server admin. If you don’t want this, please be patient until a server admin is available.
o Send a dA note to FelixT titled “LitFFS Teamspeak Account”.
o Submit the password you want to use in this note.
o The server admin (FelixT) will create an account with your dA user name and the sent-in password. You will receive a note once your account is created.
o This way of registering might need some patience, because FelixT might not be online daily.

3.2.3. Joining the server as a registered user

Copy the following link into your internet browser:

teamspeak://202.89.183.48:8767?Loginname=<loginname>?password=<password>?

(Again you are supposed to replace the placeholders with your user data.)
The link is bookmarkable. You might find that an easy option to log in.
With this link you can connect to the LitFFS as a registered user.
If any errors occur please check the link address before contacting any server admin for help.
If you can’t fix the problem yourself, connect to the server as an unregistered user (→ 3.1) and contact a server admin. If no server admin is logged in, send a dA note to FelixT.

4. Availability of the Teamspeak server

Our Teamspeak server will not be available 24/7.
This is because the server is hosted by a private PC which can’t be running constantly.
We will try to keep the server online as often as possible. If the server will be shut down you will be informed by a server admin in Teamspeak.

5. Rules of chatting on the server

Just like in any other chat room there are rules you mustn’t break:

• Be friendly to other chatters on the servers, insults might be forgiven, if you apologize on your own initiative immediately. Jokes about persons might also cause sanctions dependant on their severity.
• Spamming, advertisement or shouting on the server will not be tolerated.
• On the server there is a chat for off topic conversations. Please avoid off topic conversation in the literature chats. If you don’t react on server admins orders concerning this point, you will be kicked from the server.
• Other inappropriate behaviour not listed here might also cause sanctions.
• Please follow the instructions of server admins.

One-time violations of these might lead to muting of the user or kicking from the server.
Repeated violations will cause the deletion of user accounts and in heavy case to user baning.

I hope you enjoy your time on the LitFFS Teamspeak Server!
